What Does Food Security Mean To You?
Food security is an important part of the Osa Mountain Village Resort plan for sustainability. It is a goal of the community to be able to feed everyone living here in the event of a massive breakdown in the world’s systems. We are not paranoid (although I love that Black Sabbath song), we just want to be able to provide for ourselves. To prove we can do it and to know where our food comes from and what was sprayed on it… or not. We have both extensive and intensive gardening systems at Osa Mountain Village. Edible landscapes are everywhere throughout the village with herbs and vegetables available a few feet from your front door. As you’ll see in the video below there is a lot of food growing all over the place. There are pineapples, papayas, tilapia, okra, bok choy, lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, goat’s producing milk, kale, chard, green onions, brown onions, oranges, limon dulces, watermelons, kamotes, yucca to name but a small selection. The eventual goal is to have food abundance as well as food security.
What Does The Future Hold In Store
We don’t know what is in store for the future. It makes sense though to listen to the old Chinese proverb that says “Dig Your Well Before You Are Thirsty”. We do know that change is inevitable and constant and that things are heating up in the world as governments fail and people become desperate. Right now we are producing enough food to feed all of the 50+ people that live here full time. It doesn’t take much more to live sustainably than a commitment to do so and then learning as you do it. It helps to have other like-minded people around you with the same basic goals too. That’s where community comes in. Everyone living at Osa Mountain Village has a similar goal of living a simpler lifestyle in a world filled with chaos. We all want to live pura vida and having food security is a part of that lifestyle plan. Life is a lot less stressful when you know where your next meal is coming from… wouldn’t you agree?
